Tomorrow we will enter a new phase in the Spencer household: Lyla will start attending Pre-K at our local gymnastics-based preschool.
Even though she’s been going to daycare twice a week with other kids since she was an infant, and even though Pre-K is just three half-days a week, this feels like a really big deal.
With backpacks and teachers and snack time and field trips and parents’ nights and classmates.
This is the start. This year, preschool. Next year, she’ll be stepping on the school bus to kindergarten. And then…walking across the stage at high school graduation.
Lyla will rock this, I know it. And she’ll love it.
Mommy, on the other hand….
Please send some extra Kleenex my way. I’m gonna need it.
To cope, let’s do some online shopping, shall we? Just for a moment, I’m pretending to live in a fantasy world where I actually have some input about what this soon-to-be pre-K’er wears. In reality: she’s had very strong opinions about what she will and will not wear since around age 2.
But, just for fun, here’s what I would pick for my big girl on her first day of school:
Long sleeve french terry graphic top | French Toast*
This online shop is known for school uniforms (jumpers, polos, pants and skirts in neutral colors), but they’ve got some great non-uniform stuff too.
Rainbow Dash necklace | Overstock
Just because (RD is her fav).
Lyocell shorts | H&M Kids
Shorts are always a top choice for this kid, no matter the weather.
Mackenzie Rainbow Navy Backpack | Pottery Barn Kids
Continuing with the rainbow theme.
Saucony Girls Jazz Shoes | Amazon**
These shoes are the BEST for little kiddos — they come in lots of different color choices, are super-durable and are easy for littles to get on and off on their own.
Personalized Mini Tag | Mabel’s Labels*
Lyla’s new school requests that all things be labeled. I got a back-to-school combo pack of this washable, customized labels for her shoes, jacket and lunch box, plus some little mini tags for her backpack.
Off to the big first day we go!
